Mad About Maxi
It’s summer and as many of you know, fashion trends are coming and going. Hair’s going up, the suns’ going up, but the hem lines are coming down? For you, or your significant others who hear the word “maxi” and assume you’re referring to some sort of small Pomeranian or a new music craze, we’re here to explain in full. The Maxi Skirt or Maxi Dress is a long, billowing bottom that goes down past the knee but slightly above the foot and is worn with a bohemian flare and a flat shoe. This look has been rocked by several celebrities this season whether it’s to a concert or doing day to day activities such as shopping or walking around the city.
So many questions we receive from our users is how do I pull off this long piece of fabric or pair it with items I already have in my wardrobe? Well it is easier than one would think. Let’s start from the bottom. The maxi skirt is going to look great with any type of gladiator or even a wedged sandal. Just make sure that you’re not tripping over your maxi, after all, this is casual everyday wear not your wedding day!
Now that we’ve got the shoes covered, let’s work our way up to the upper body. The top can be styled in several ways. One can either choose a solid colored flowy top tucked a little bit into the skirt in order to keep the flowy look. This top should probably be a tank top or short sleeved as your legs will be entirely covered. Another way would to match a tight fitting top, usually a solid color, and tuck that completely into the skirt to appear as if they are one matching piece. In this case a middle belt worn around the area where the maxi skirt and shirt meet will make your look cohesive.
Another popular trend for summer is a bandeau top or a crop top that can be matched with any maxi skirt or high waisted short. A casual jacket and bangles can really make this look come together. Either way, it’s your style the way you want it, so mix, match and have fun!!
To see exactly what we are talking about, Poetrie had some fun on Polyvore.com’s website and showed you how to match our products with other accessories to “Maxi” out your look. Check it out! Maxi Madness Collage
